The Cities IQ Index, developed by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation, shows how effectively digitalization of key sectors of urban development is carried out.

Moscow again became the leader of the digitalization index of urban economy “IQ cities” among Russian cities. The ranking results for 2019 were presented to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation.

The capital became the first among 203 cities for which the rating was calculated. Yekaterinburg, Kazan, St. Petersburg and Voronezh are also included in the top five among the cities-millionaires.

Moscow scored 89.65 points out of 120, improving last year’s result by seven percent, while the average indicators of the IQ of cities index were 40.67 points. The capital showed the greatest progress in the “Smart Housing and Utilities” category: the growth of indicators was 67.69 percent.

The IQ Cities Index, developed by the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation, is a transparent tool for assessing the effectiveness of digitalization in key sectors of urban development. The capital systematically introduces technologies in the urban economy and social sphere, develops IT infrastructure, thanks to which it was able to improve its overall score.

The index is calculated on 47 indicators. The final result depends on the progress and effectiveness of digitalization of the urban economy. In particular, the ranking took into account the achievements of cities in the areas of urban management, smart technologies in housing and communal services and urban transport, innovations for the urban environment, public and environmental security systems, tourism, social services, communications infrastructure, economy and investment climate.
