Today, in memory of the Orthodox patron saint of Russian sailors, St. Nicholas Archbishop Mir of Lycia, a prayer service was held in the house church of the Northern Fleet headquarters, named after Nicholas the Wonderworker. It was conducted by the rector of St. Andrew’s Naval Cathedral in the city of Severomorsk and the assistant to the commander of the rocket ship formation for work with believing military personnel, Archpriest Alexander Kozachuk.

The prayer service in the home church of the headquarters was attended by the commander of the fleet, Hero of Russia, Admiral Alksandr Moiseev, officers and servicemen at the call of the support center of the headquarters of the fleet.

After the church service, Father Alexander told the servicemen about episodes from the life of Nicholas the Wonderworker, explaining why in Russia he was especially revered, and also told that the tradition of giving Christmas gifts was also laid by St. Nicholas.

After the prayer service, Orthodox servicemen took the opportunity to venerate the relics of the patron saints of the Russian army, kept in a special ark, first brought to the house church of the fleet headquarters, and also lit candles for the health of their relatives and friends.
