In his message addressed to the 31st Special Session of the UN General Assembly in response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias underscored the need for all states to cooperate with each other and the competent agencies, including the World Health Organization.
Among other things, the Minister stressed that the repercussions of the pandemic for health and society are exacerbated by conflicts, reiterating our country’s support for the UN Secretary-General’s appeal for a global ceasefire.
Mr. Dendias also noted that effective multilateral action is the only answer to the collective challenges of the 21st century.
Finally, the Minister hailed the contribution of doctors and nurses globally for addressing the pandemic and expressed support for access to vaccines and the necessary funding to restart the economies and provide social support.
