Dominique Jones scored a game-high 42 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Jilin to a 109-105 win over Fujian, while the Guangdong Southern Tigers edged off the Zhejiang Lions 119-117 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in Zhuji, China, on Saturday.
Trailing 89-67 to enter the last quarter, Fujian fought back bravely to narrow the gap to three points. But Wang Zhelin made a crucial turnover on Fujian’s last possession and surrendered the opportunity to force an overtime.
Wang Zhelin made a double-double with 17 points and 20 rebounds, Trae Golden led the Sturgeons with 27 points, six rebounds and eight assists, and Chen Linjian added 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five blocks.
The battle between Guangdong and the Zhejiang Lions was another close match.
The Lions came from behind to tie it 117-117 after Zhao Yanhao made both free throws with 42 seconds remaining. Guangdong retook the lead after Ren Junfei made a jump shot to make it 119-117 with 22 seconds on the clock.
The Lions had an opportunity to tie the score, but Miroslav Radulica missed the jumper. Guangdong’s guard Zhao Rui grabbed the decisive rebound, leaving the Lions with no chance to win.
Guangdong’s Marshon Brooks scored a game-high 34 points, adding five rebounds and four assists. Hu Mingxuan contributed 17 points and Sonny Weems added 15 points.
Center Miroslav Radulica and Hu Jinqiu each finished with a team-high 27 points, while Zhao Yanhao notched 19 points for the Zhejiang Lions.
Elsewhere, Shanxi smashed Jiangsu 100-84, the Nanjing Monkey Kings defeated the Beijing Royal Fighters 112-92, and the Tianjing Pioneers beat the Shanghai Sharks 113-94.
