A 63-year-old male confirmed COVID-19 patient left Queen Elizabeth Hospital without permission today, the Hospital Authority announced.

The patient was admitted to the hospital’s isolation ward on December 14 for treatment.

At about 5pm, the ward staff spotted the patient running away from the ward. The ward staff chased him, but their efforts were in vain. The patient had fled to the staircase.

Hospital security was immediately informed and the follow-up search in the hospital compound did not locate the patient.

The hospital called Police and would co-operate with the police investigation. It also reported the incident to the Centre for Health Protection.

The patient is about 1.6m tall and of medium build with short black hair.

He was last seen wearing hospital patient clothes, a navy blue jacket, sports shoes and a surgical mask.

The hospital called on the public to contact Police or call the hospital hotline at 3506 8944 if they know the whereabouts of the patient.
