While discussing this year’s submissions, Representative Taylor stated, “I would like to thank the students who participated in this year’s Congressional App Challenge. My office received over 30 app submissions this year, and I’m extremely impressed with the level of talent and innovation exhibited by these young leaders. The STEM field is so important to the future of our nation’s workforce, and it’s exciting to see so many middle and high school students from across Texas’ Third Congressional District taking interest in STEM skills and computer science.”

On Thursday, Representative Taylor announced Srujan Mupparapu as the winner of the 2020 Congressional App Challenge. Mr. Mupparapu, a 12th grader from Frisco’s Liberty High school, created the UpGrade App to help students, teachers, and parents during the COVID-19 pandemic. UpGrade, which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, includes features such as an academic planner, GPA calculator, grade tracking system, and even includes a way for students to communicate with their teachers making learning from home easier.

The app also allows parents to monitor their child’s learning activities. Additionally, UpGrade has partnered with a local non-profit allowing users of the app to utilize their services including free tutoring. Over 3,000 active users across all ten Frisco ISD High schools are currently using UpGrade, with plans to expand to other area schools in the near future.
