Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) released the following statement after the full U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5472, the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park Resignation Act. Congressman Bishop is the original sponsor of H.R. 5472 and the bill is supported by the entire Georgia delegation:

“I am very pleased the House passed our bill to make the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park. President Carter has spent his life making Plains, Georgia, and America a better place for all and it is fitting that we honor him with this change. The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park will increase tourism in Plains for many years to come, as President and Mrs. Carter desire. I urge the Senate to bring this bill to the floor for a vote so we can send it to the President’s desk to sign into law.”
