On Wednesday December 16, 2020, at around 5.45 p.m., an accident involving 3 passenger cars occurred at the entrance to the Belmont tunnel on the A9 Lausanne-Simplon motorway, on the lake causeway, in the direction of Vevey. Following the shock, one of the cars involved caught fire in the tunnel. The occupants were able to leave their vehicles and get to safety. No injuries were to be deplored. The intervention of the emergency services and the extinction of the incident required a total closure of the lake causeway with the forced exit of users at the Vennes junction. An important diversion device called DELESTA was set up and operated by Civil Protection staff.

Traffic was severely disrupted throughout the area until the motorway reopened at around 9:30 p.m.

This intervention required the commitment of significant emergency resources such as numerous police patrols, the SPSL of Lausanne and the SDIS Riviera, the staff of the General Directorate of Mobility and Roads (DGMR), but also of resources. heavy cleaning and troubleshooting.
