Bogotá (Dec 17/20). The Government of the Republic of Colombia, through the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Claudia Blum, thanked the United States Ambassador, Philip S. Goldberg, for joining the country’s efforts, led by the National Risk Management Unit of Disasters (UNGRD) to respond to the catastrophic situation caused in the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina after the passage of Hurricane Iota.

The generous support provided through resources for the purchase of communications equipment, debris clearance equipment, and critical aid supplies for the affected populations, as well as the contribution to support the transportation of humanitarian assistance from the Government of Colombia to San Andrés and the establishment of a humanitarian air bridge between the islands of San Andrés and Providencia, are a very valuable contribution both for the Colombian State and for the islanders.

The United States is Colombia’s main partner in development cooperation, and its support constitutes an important contribution to the lines prioritized by the national government.
