The Government is drafting a National COVID-19 Vaccination Plan, which is intended to approve in the near future. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during an online conversation with leading entrepreneurs “Ukraine and the World in 2021”, which took place on December 17.

According to the Head of Government, the plan provides a detailed description of how and in what order the vaccination will be carried out.

“We expect that we will start vaccinating doctors beginning in February, and then the first million doses of COVAX are planned for March. Then this number will increase monthly,” said Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister added that the National Plan will also stipulate for the categories of citizens that should receive the vaccine free of charge.

“First of all, doctors, the military and people who are at risk will be vaccinated,” said Denys Shmyhal.

According to the Prime Minister, 4 million people will be able to get vaccinated thanks to the global COVAX initiative. According to the agreements, Ukraine will receive 8 million doses of the vaccine.

“This is only the first part. We budget money to purchase additional doses. A special fund for the purchase of vaccines has been established in the budget. This fund will be replenished and we will buy the amount of vaccines needed to vaccinate Ukrainians,” stressed Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister also noted that negotiations are underway to purchase additional doses of the vaccine at the level of leadership of states. At the company level, the Ministry of Health is negotiating.

“It is important to get the first doses of the vaccine as soon as possible so that we can start vaccinating doctors who are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19,” he said.
