Zug: Criminal proceedings concluded

The public prosecutor of the canton of Zug has suspended the criminal proceedings that were opened in December 2019 (see press release no.316 / 2019). The investigation focused on a violation of official secrecy.

Correspondence published on December 20, 2019 in the name of a member of the Zug police force contained confidential data from the Zug police force journal. These are subject to official secrecy. As a result, the public prosecutor of the canton of Zug initiated a criminal investigation and instructed the Zurich canton police to carry out the relevant investigations.

The focus of the police investigation was on the question of whether the employee actually sent the email and thereby committed a breach of official secrecy, or whether a third party was responsible for sending it through unauthorized entry into a data processing system. No evidence could be found that the employee sent the e-mail. The investigations into a third party as the sender did not lead to any result. The public prosecutor’s office in the canton of Zug subsequently suspended the proceedings.
