A comprehensive intercity railway system will be built in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region by 2025, shortening the travel time in the region to one to two hours, the National Development and Reform Commission announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
A total of 1,000 kilometers of new railways will be built. Construction will continue to build up a one-hour commute circle connecting central Beijing and Tianjin with new towns and satellite cities, and a one-hour transportation circle among Beijing, Tianjin, Xiong’an New Area, Baoding, and Tangshan.
These intercity railways will serve the needs of commuters and connect key population clusters, industrial parks and tourist resorts. The railways’ design speed will be from 160 to 200 kilometers per hour.
