Albuquerque, N.M. – Today, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) partnered with the New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center to host a small business workshop to help small businesses adapt to the current COVID-19 environment. With New Mexicans looking online to find local businesses due to the pandemic, it’s more important than ever to invest in building an effective brand and online presence.
The presentation led by Peter Knapp, Arrowhead Center’s Senior Graphic Designer and Visual Communications Leader, covered development and implementation of brand identity strategies, website development, print layout, and design conceptualization. Knapp also took specific questions from New Mexico business owners about specific processes, online platforms and strategies to help them reach more people online.

“Small businesses are the backbone of New Mexico’s economy, but right now the COVID-19 pandemic is taking a toll on our economy. It is essential they have the right virtual tools at their disposal as customers move increasingly online to buy local, so we hosted a virtual event to help small businesses build their online brand and reach new customers. I’ll continue looking for ways to support our local businesses,” said Congresswoman Haaland.
“Right now more than ever, it’s so important to build and establish your business’s brand through social media platforms and with an engaging website; your customers are online and often judge your brand by the completeness of its online presence. Arrowhead Center has many great resources available like brand enhancement, design collaborators, and content developers. We were pleased to work with Rep. Deb Haaland and her team to bring these resources to businesses in her district,” said Peter Knapp, Senior Graphic Designer and Visual Communications Leader at Arrowhead.
Haaland is working to ensure local businesses in New Mexico remain successful in the pandemic economy. Haaland took action to help New Mexico workers and small businesses by voting to pass the Paycheck Protection Program Flexibility Act which fixed urgent issues with the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) so it works better for small business owners in New Mexico and across the country. Haaland also held several Telephone Town Halls with a focus on helping small businesses access the resources to keep workers on payrolls and business afloat.
