The government council can adjust the wage rates in full or in part to the inflation rate at the beginning of the year. The trend in consumer prices at the end of November is pointing the way. The national consumer price index calculated by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) reached 114.3 points at the end of November 2020 (May 1993 = 100). Compared to the same month last year, inflation was – 0.7 percent or – 0.8 index points. Since the government council has not adjusted the minus and plus rates in recent years to compensate for inflation that was not or only partially balanced in previous years, the internal index is currently at 116.3 points, 1.2 points higher than the official national index . If the minus tax is not adjusted – as provided for in the 2021 budget – this difference increases to 2.0 index points.
Against this background, the government council decided to leave the inflation allowance unchanged at 116.3 index points in 2021 (basis May 1993).
