Second placed Liverpool entertain Premier League leaders Tottenham in the biggest game of the week on Wednesday evening.
Tottenham lead Liverpool on goal difference at the top of the table and a win for either of the two teams would take them three points clear.
Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota, who is out for two months after getting injured in the Champions League last week, while coach Jurgen Klopp is keeping his fingers crossed that central defender Joel Matip recovers from a knock which saw him substituted at halftime in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw away to Fulham on Sunday.
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is under increasing pressure after Sunday’s horror-show defeat at home to Burnley left his side worryingly close to the relegation zone and things could get worse when fourth placed Southampton visiting the Ethiad Stadium.
Southampton have strikers Danny Ings and Che Adams in excellent form, while Arsenal’s forwards currently look as if they couldn’t buy a goal (at least in their own net). Meanwhile Granit Xhaka is suspended after he was sent off for aggression at the weekend.
West Ham United could move into the top-four if they win a London derby at home to Crystal Palace, while there is drama as Fulham entertain Brighton.
Despite drawing at home to Liverpool on Sunday, Fulham dropped back into the bottom three after Burnley’s win against Arsenal, while Brighton were brushed aside by Leicester City, losing 3-0 and defeat to Fulham would see them fall into the relegation zone.
A win for Graham Potter’s side could, however, see them draw level with Arsenal, which also says a lot about Arsenal’s crisis.
Leicester City moved into third after beating Brighton and have an interesting game at home to a highly unpredictable Everton side that ended Chelsea’s unbeaten run at the weekend with one of their best performances since October.
Finally Leeds United look to get back to winning ways with a home game against Newcastle United, who are looking for their third consecutive league win after beating Crystal Palace and West Brom in their last two games despite having to deal with several coronavirus cases at the club.
