Under the agreement inked on December 15, Truong Son Construction Corporation, Construction Company 47 and Lilama 10 will be responsible for the construction and installation works.

The construction and installation package is the largest package of the expansion plan, worth of VND3.1 trillion (US$134 million).

The total cost of the expansion is estimated at nearly VND9.22 (US$400 million) and is scheduled for completion in 2023.

Once the expansion is completed, Hoa Binh’s generation capacity will see an increase of 480 megawatts, from two 240MW turbines, over its current capacity of 1,920 megawatts.

The expansion project will also help stabilise the frequency of the national power system and reduce the workload of existing turbines, thereby prolonging equipment lifespan and cutting maintenance costs.

The companies selected to undertake the project are all capable and experienced in major hydropower plants in Vietnam such as Son La, Lai Chau and Huoi Quang.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony, EVN Chairman Duong Quang Thanh asked the contractors to complete the package safely on schedule and with high quality while meeting environmental and social requirements.
