Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement on COVID-19 relief:

“As American COVID-19 deaths reach 300,000 and infections and hospitalizations surge, it is essential for Congress to take action and provide the relief that Granite Staters and people across this country need,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “I was pleased to see additional details of the Senate package released this afternoon. I want to again thank Senators Shaheen and Hassan for their work in helping push this forward in a bipartisan fashion.”

“It has been 213 days since the House first passed the Heroes Act and 74 days since we passed it a second time in October. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans and Leader McConnell refused to bring any comprehensive bill to the Senate floor and were unwilling to take meaningful action that would have provided relief to our communities, workers, small businesses, and frontline workers when they need it most.”

“I am pleased to see this package includes support for our workers, families, small businesses, and communities that are facing a tough winter. If passed, this legislation can bridge our response efforts into the new year, but more cooperation and compromise will be necessary to support our nation’s public health and economic priorities during and beyond the pandemic. We must continue to focus on solutions and not politics to ensure Americans weather this storm.”

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: It would be unconscionable to end this year without additional relief. Americans need help. And they’re sick of the politics and gamesmanship that have clouded this process for months and gotten in the way of progress. I stand ready, willing, and eager to support legislation like this and any other compromise that gets the job done.”
