STONE RIDGE, NY – Today, U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado (NY-19) visited SUNY Ulster to meet with the College President Dr. Alan P. Roberts. The Congressman and President’s discussion focused on how the school is adjusting to meet the needs of the community despite budget impacts. The Congressman reiterated his commitment to ensuring future coronavirus relief legislation includes his bipartisan Direct Support for Communities Act to ensure that every single locality, regardless of size, can access federal relief funding. They also talked about the colleges’ workforce development programs, including the Green Careers Academy in partnership with County Executive Pat Ryan.
“Our colleges and universities in NY-19 are working to manage the coronavirus pandemic and keep students and faculty safe and healthy while facing serious budget constraints. I appreciate the opportunity to return to SUNY Ulster and connect with Dr. Roberts to hear more about how the college is navigating this health crisis,” said Rep. Delgado. “Congress has a duty to support organizations in our community during this critically important moment, and that includes passing a needed coronavirus relief package with state and local government funding. The time for action is now. We must continue to work together at the federal, state, and local levels to meet the needs of students in our area and support the long term health of community colleges in upstate.”
“SUNY Ulster is fortunate to have advocacy and support from Congressman Antonio Delgado during this challenging and unprecedented time in higher education and our world. It was an honor to briefly connect while observing protocols and social distancing measures on SUNY Ulster’s Stone Ridge Campus. Thank you to Congressman Delgado for all he is doing to serve his constituents and most importantly our students. Let’s continue the shared responsibility that we all have, as individuals and as a community, to all do our part to help reduce the risk of transmission so that together we can collectively combat COVID-19 and focus on the future of community colleges while changing lives,” said Dr. Alan P. Roberts, President, SUNY Ulster.
