On December 15, the Protocol on the extension of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the People’s Republic of China on notifications of launches of ballistic missiles and space carrier rockets was signed. On the Russian side, the Protocol was signed by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation S.K. Shoigu, on the Chinese side – by the Member of the State Council, Minister of Defense of the People’s Republic of China Wei Fenghe.
The purpose of the Agreement was to create a mechanism for mutual notification of upcoming and completed launches of ballistic missiles and space launch vehicles in the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China in order to prevent possible ambiguities and emergency situations in this regard.
Over the years of its operation, the Agreement has confirmed its efficiency, contributed to the further strengthening of mutual trust and increased openness in relations between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.
With the signing of the Protocol, the Agreement was extended for a new ten-year period. This reflects the trusting nature of Russian-Chinese relations and contributes to the maintenance of global security and stability.
