MIL-OSI Russia: Former Deputy Head of the Siberian Customs Directorate to appear before the court in Novosibirsk

West Siberian transport the prosecutor’s office approved the indictment in the criminal case against the former deputy head of the Siberian customs department. He is accused of committing crimes under Part 3 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (abuse of office), part 3 of Art. 159.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (insurance fraud).

According to the investigation, in February 2020, the accused was injured while playing ice hockey on the ice rink. When contacting a medical institution and during an official investigation into this fact, he deliberately distorted the circumstances, time and place of the injury, indicating that he received it in the performance of his official duties. These actions were the basis for the commission to send a package of documents to the insurance company, on the basis of which the accused received an insurance payment in the amount of over 870 thousand rubles.

Besides, being Chairman of the Commission of the Siberian Customs Directorate for the consideration of issues of granting to employees of the department and members of their families, as well as citizens dismissed from service in the customs authorities, a one-time social payment for the acquisition or construction of housing, out of other personal interest prevented 2 candidates from receiving social payments in 2019 in excess of 8 million rubles.

The criminal case was sent to the Zaeltsovskiy District Court of Novosibirsk for consideration on the merits.
