The Sichuan Blue Whales took a narrow 92-87 victory over the Shanxi Loongs for their third straight win in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Monday.
Sichuan led the game from the beginning and built a 12-point lead going into the last quarter. Su Ruoyu of Sichuan made a jump shot with Hamed Haddadi’s assist to make it 86-83 with 1:57 left and Sichuan never looked back.
Haddadi scored a game-high 21 points, plus 12 rebounds and five assists, while their new foreign player Marcus Georges-Hunt pocketed 19 points. Su Ruoyu contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Both Zhang Ning and Eric Moreland contributed 17 points for Shanxi. Yuan Shuai and Ge Zhaobao had 12 points and three rebounds respectively.
Sichuan head coach Zhou Jinli believed their team persisted enough in the victory when the game was getting very close many times.
“Our team work hard enough today, while Jamaal Franklin absent,” said Shanxi coach Ding Wei.
