Lagging behind in double-digit numbers in the first half, Shanghai Sharks overtook Shenzhen Aviators 117-108 in the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Monday.
Shanghai’s Jimmer Fredette notched a team-high 36 points and nine rebounds, while his teammate Zong Zan added 19 points and nine rebounds.
With Shanghai’s attack blocked by Shenzhen, the latter took a 34-16 lead in the first quarter. Fredette’s high accuracy under the basket helped Shanghai cut the deficit, but the team still faced a trailing 63-52 gap since Askia Booker grabbed five points before the interval whistle for Shenzhen.
The turning point came in the third quarter after Marcus Denmon’s three-pointer. Shanghai delivered a 14-2 run under the leadership of Fredette to enter the final quarter with 85-79, in which the 31-year-old veteran continued to play a decisive role by contributing three three-pointers to seal the victory for Shanghai.
Booker grabbed a game-high 40 points, six rebounds and 12 assists for Shenzhen. Forward Gu Quan pocketed 21 points, followed by Shen Zijie’s 19 points.
