Donatas Motiejunas scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Xinjiang Flying Tigers past the Tianjin Pioneers 121-112 for their fourth straight win in the second phase of the 2020-21 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Sunday.
Tianjin took the upper hand from the start but failed to keep the advantage. Without Zhou Qi, Motiejunas’s outstanding performance helped Xinjiang narrow the gap and overtook the lead in the last quarter.
“Tianjin played well today and took the advantage of our weakness on the defense. We tried our best and we should learn something from this match,” said Xinjiang coach Adiljan.
In another match, the Jiangsu Dragons had a narrow victory over the Shandong Heroes through overtime in 126-125. Jiangsu led by five points after Wells’ shot from 3-point land with 34.1 seconds on the clock, but Shandong erased it, forcing the game into overtime at 110-110.
The overtime witnessed a duel between Wells and Hudson. As Jiangsu went up 126-125, Shandong suffered a turnover in an inbound pass, thus letting the chance slip away.
Hudson led Shandong with 30 points. Manny Harris and Jiao Hailong contributed 28 and 19 points respectively.
Elsewhere, the Qingdao Eagles smashed the Jilin Northeast Tigers 115-88, the Guangzhou Loong Lions defeated the Beijing Royal Fighters 114-103.
