The Hospital Authority today said a female nurse at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital’s Orthopaedics & Traumatology Department has tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse attended the Ma On Shan Family Medicine Centre on December 11 due to fever and was arranged to undergo a deep throat saliva test.

She has been arranged for admission to the Community Treatment Facility at AsiaWorld-Expo after her test result came back positive on December 12.

She last performed duties on December 11 and had no contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients at the hospital.

Eight staff members who had meals with the nurse were identified as close contacts and will undergo quarantine. COVID-19 tests were also arranged for them and the results were negative.

The nurse concerned had been wearing appropriate personal protective equipment while working and no patient was identified as a close contact.

As a precautionary measure, the hospital will arrange COVID-19 tests and medical surveillance for six orthopaedic patients who had contact with the nurse concerned and staff working in the same ward.

Thorough cleansing and disinfection of the ward concerned, staff pantry and changing room have been completed.

The hospital said it would continue to monitor the health condition of its staff and patients and communicate with the Centre for Health Protection on the latest progress.
