Zug: Man arrested after threat

An anonymous, telephone bomb threat led to a police operation in the city of Zug on Friday (December 11, 2020). The author of the threat was arrested a few hours later in Germany.

Shortly before 2 p.m., a company on Terrassenweg in Zug received an anonymous bomb threat by telephone. Around a dozen people had to leave the residential and commercial building as a precaution. During the search of the affected property, explosive detection dogs from the Zurich cantonal police and specialists from the Zurich Forensic Institute were used. No suspicious items were found. The building was then released again.

In the course of the investigation, a suspect was arrested in Germany during the evening. This is a 50-year-old German citizen. The arrest succeeded just a few hours after the telephone threat, thanks to intensive investigations and cooperation with the German police and the public prosecutor of the canton of Zug. The background to the threat, which ultimately turned out to be a false alarm, is still unclear. The investigation continues.

During the police operation, the Industriestrasse and the Terrassenweg were closed. Members of the voluntary fire brigade of the city of Zug (FFZ) as well as employees of the Zug rescue service, the Zurich Forensic Institute, the Zurich canton police and the Zug police were on duty.
