The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation hosted a Russian-French interdepartmental meeting on combating cybercrime and combating ransomware.

To achieve the set tasks, despite the difficult epidemiological situation, a fundamental decision was made to hold a meeting in person.

The agreement to hold this event was reached following the results of the 10th meeting of the Standing Working Group of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Justice of the French Republic, held in Paris on March 2-3, 2020.

On the Russian side, the meeting was attended by Petr Gorodov, Head of the Main Directorate for International Legal Cooperation, as well as employees of specialized units of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The French side was represented by the heads of the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of General Jurisdiction of Paris, investigators from the Central Office for Combating Crime Related to Information and Communication Technologies, as well as representatives of the French Embassy in Moscow.

The topic chosen for discussion is the most relevant at the present time, since the intensity of the use of information and communication technologies for criminal purposes has increased significantly in the current epidemiological situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The main objectives of the event are to increase the efficiency of interaction between the law enforcement agencies of Russia and France in countering cybercrimes, as well as to establish and establish close working contacts in this area.

As part of the event, the parties got acquainted with Russian and French legislation governing countering cybercrime, the structure of state bodies and the specifics of organizing work to combat crimes committed in the field of information and communication technologies in both states, outline ways to increase the effectiveness of Russian-French cooperation in the field countering cybercrime, as well as to establish a constant exchange of information between the French and Russian competent services.
