The concept for the restoration of the station building, as well as the project for the improvement of the adjacent park, were also chosen by “active citizens”.

In the project “Active Citizen” a new vote has opened: Muscovites are invited to evaluate the renovated park and the building of the Northern River Station. Restoration work began here in August 2018, and in October 2019, specialists began the improvement. This year, the facilities were reopened for residents and guests of the city.

Residents of the capital turned to the city authorities with a request to save the park and the building of the Northern River Station – to revive the historical object and the symbol of the city of the five seas. Then the concept of restoration was supported by the participants of the “Active Citizen”: the proposed project approved 77 percent of them. The unique building of the 1930s was restored according to historical drawings.

As conceived by the creators, the Northern River Station was supposed to serve not only as a transport facility, but also as a place for everyday rest of the townspeople. Therefore, a park was set up nearby, decorated with fountains and sculptures. Improvement conceptalso supported by the participants of the “Active Citizen” project.

The renovated Northern River Station was opened for citizens in September. From here ships leave for sailing, Muscovites and tourists come to rest, ride on pleasure boats or dine at the legendary restaurant “Volga-Volga”. In the park and on the embankment, cafes, new modern benches, a miniature copy of the Moscow Canal, where children launch paper boats, and a dry dynamic light fountain have appeared. Experts have equipped children’s and sports grounds, restored surviving sculptures and recreated two historic fountains. Today, more than 2.5 thousand people can simultaneously walk along the embankment with a length of about 1.4 kilometers.
