Thanksgiving is a time to express gratitude for our families and friends, and for the faith and values that founded our great nation. As we gather together with our loved ones during a year that has looked very different than most, we reflect on the abundance of blessings we have as Americans.

Ronald Reagan once said, “I have always believed that this anointed land was set apart in an uncommon way, that a divine plan placed this great continent here between the oceans to be found by people from every corner of the Earth who had a special love of faith and freedom.”

His belief still rings true. Our young nation is a beacon of faith, hope and liberty for the rest of the world, and it is our responsibility every day to uphold the principles that have carried us toward a more perfect union over the last two and a half centuries. Though we may have our differences and this year has handed us a great deal of pain and uncertainty, we are immensely blessed to live in a land where the spirit of its people can rise above its darkest hours.

We take time, especially this season, to thank our frontline health care heroes and first responders for their commitment to Texans, and for those who will be spending today healing our families. We thank our local leaders for pouring into our communities and our educators for continuing to serve students despite facing unforeseen challenges.

We also take time to remember and honor the sacrifices of our military servicemen and women and those who are away from their families during the holidays. We thank you for your sacrifice and for your commitment to defending freedom; our nation is made better because of you.

I pray that you and your families stay safe this season. May God bless each of you, may He bless Texas and may He continue to bless the United States of America. Happy Thanksgiving!

In God we trust,

Roger Williams
