Better future prospects for local winemakers

The German Bundestag will be held this Thursday in 2/3. Decision to reform the wine law at the reading. The agricultural policy spokesman for the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, Albert Stegemann, and the responsible rapporteur, Artur Auernhammer, explain:

Albert Stegemann: “Wines from Germany are world class. Our winemakers have been producing wines of excellent quality for years and at the same time cultivating unique cultural landscapes, for example in steep-slope viticulture. Nevertheless, we have to state that sales of German wines at home and abroad remain below their potential.

That is why we support Federal Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner in increasing sales of German wines. With the reform of the Wine Act, the German Bundestag is giving tailwind. The amount for sales promotion at federal level will be increased by 500,000 euros to a total of two million euros – this corresponds to an increase in funds by a third. In addition, we enabled new grape varieties to be launched quickly on the market in the parliamentary procedure. Especially in times of climate change, new grape varieties are of particular importance because they can be resistant to higher temperatures, extreme weather and pest infestation. “

Artur Auernhammer: “German wine has remained below its potential for years. It is therefore gratifying that the amendment to the Wine Act and the Wine Ordinance, the preparation of which was initiated in the previous legislative period, are now being concluded. This law is very important for the future of German wine. National and international sales have been falling for years. It is all the more important that the amendment makes more funds available for advertising and marketing, which will increase sales in the long term. Not only the winemakers benefit from this, but everyone in the wine-growing region. Because it strengthens both tourism and our wine culture.

But above all we are happy for the young winemakers who will benefit from this forward-looking reform. The great desire for this reform has been confirmed again and again in numerous discussions with young winemakers. The wine law, together with the wine ordinance, which will be passed next year, ensures market stability that offers young winemakers future prospects. “

The reform of the wine law and the wine ordinance based on it are to be understood as a package. Sales of German wines have been falling for years – both nationally and internationally. The reform of the wine law is intended to enable German winegrowers to increase their sales again through a stronger profile of their origin and to achieve better revenues.
