Bogotá (Nov. 25/20). President Iván Duque Márquez participates this Thursday, virtually, in the Presidential Meeting and IX Binational Cabinet: Ecuador – Colombia, in the company of the President of the sister nation, Lenín Moreno.

The Colombian Head of State will participate from the Casa de Nariño in the bilateral meeting, which will be hosted by the President of Ecuador, since these meetings alternate each year between the two countries.

In this meeting to review the bilateral commitments, President Duque will be accompanied by the Ministers of the Office, including Chancellor Claudia Blum.

The Ecuadorian Head of State will be accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Relations, Arturo Cabrera; the Minister of National Defense, Major General Oswaldo Jarrín; the Minister of Government, María Paula Romo; the Vice Minister of Human Mobility, Carlos Alberto Velástegui, and the Minister of Public Health, Juan Carlos Zevallos, among others.

Topics such as the effects of the pandemic and advances in security and defense, infrastructure and connectivity, border issues, environmental issues, social and cultural issues, economic and commercial issues, and the Binational Plan for the Border Integration Zone will be analyzed.

The mechanism of integration and work of the Binational Cabinets compiles the commitments and activities that will be developed by the entities of both countries, and to which both the foreign ministries and the embassies follow up.

From 2012 to date, eight binational cabinets have been held, which have contributed to promoting exchange between the two bordering countries and strengthening the bilateral relationship.

The last Colombia-Ecuador Binational Cabinet took place in Cali in December of last year and there the teams led by Presidents Duque and Moreno reviewed the commitments of the previous session, which had been in Quito.

At the end of the meeting, the leaders will present the conclusions and announce the joint work plan for 2021.
