Source: DGB – BundesvorstandPM 072 – 11/26/2020 DGB demands real social guarantee for health insurers and insured personsToday, Thursday, the Bundestag will deal with the law to improve care and care (GPVG). With a view to the upcoming Bundestag debate, Anja Piel, DGB board member, said: “The members of the Bundestag absolutely have to improve this draft law and they must use all their might to prevent Health Minister Spahn from plundering the contribution pots of the members of the statutory health insurance companies. The financial situation of many statutory health insurance companies is already more than worrying. The reasons for this, in addition to the consequences of the pandemic, are the expensive laws of the Federal Ministry of Health, from which only the least insured benefited. The fact that Federal Minister Spahn describes the package as a ‘social guarantee’ is dishonest: the increase in additional contributions that has already been announced for next year will not be included the estimated 0.2 to 0.3 percentage points end. For clarification: the reserves of the health insurance funds are nothing more than contributions that the insured persons have paid in themselves. In this way, the insured themselves ensure the necessary stabilization of social security with their contributions. In the end, letting the insured people foot the bill for problems for which they are not responsible is anti-social and non-solidarity. Instead, the DGB is demanding a significantly higher federal subsidy for a real ‘social guarantee’. In addition, preventive measures to stabilize the statutory health insurance must begin now, which will not end in the federal elections in 2021. Otherwise the insured face a rude awakening in autumn next year. “
