Sarah Courtney, Minister for Health

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to building a better health system, supporting staff, driving better care and delivering the best possible outcomes for patients in Tasmania.

The Department of Health have confirmed the preferred location of the new $6 million Burnie Ambulance Station in Burnie.

The Department and Ambulance Tasmania have identified a greenfield site at the North West Regional Hospital, following a comprehensive process of site analysis.

Importantly, locating the new station next to the Hospital will mean that funding for construction can be maximised, to deliver the new state-of-the-art facility for our Burnie Ambulance Tasmania paramedics and staff, instead of spending resources on securing a new location.

The new facility will also better enable our hard working paramedics to work closely onsite with the THS.

Further consultation on design and operational functionality will continue with our staff and key stakeholders, as well as the Burnie City Council and local residents.

It is expected that the tender for construction will be released next year.

It is expected this new location will help to improve response times, as less time will be spent travelling back to another base.

The Government is committed to the delivery of improvements to other ambulance stations across the North West, and providing high-quality care to the Burnie community.
