Order of November 18, 2020 No. 3016-r

More than 42.4 million rubles will be directed to the Irkutsk Region for measures to protect residents of the city of Usolye-Sibirskoye from possible exposure to harmful substances. The order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Federal funding will allow purchasing more than 11 thousand personal protective equipment. They may be needed in the course of work to eliminate pollution, which is now underway in the city.

Usolye-Sibirskoye turned into an ecological disaster zone after the town-forming enterprise Usoliekhimprom was closed there. A significant part of the production chemicals, accumulated for decades, was placed in underground reservoirs, containers, and left in the workshop buildings. Due to the danger of poisonous leaks, an emergency regime was introduced in the city. To eliminate pollution and conduct environmental monitoring, specialists from Rosatom, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergencies and Rosprirodnadzor were sent to the city to help the regional authorities.

The government approved an action plan to address environmental problems in Usolye-Sibirskoye. It included both measures to eliminate the accumulated harm to the environment (including accompanying measures related to the construction of a new water supply system and treatment facilities), and measures to protect the population from possible exposure to harmful substances during work to eliminate pollution.

A separate block is devoted to creating conditions for the socio-economic development of the city. In particular, it envisages the expansion of the types of activities permitted in the territory of the priority social and economic development “Usolye-Sibirskoye”, support of small and medium-sized businesses through microcrediting mechanisms, and the provision of consulting services to entrepreneurs.

In general, by the end of 2024, a new environment for the life of citizens and infrastructure for the socio-economic development of the city will be created in Usolye-Sibirskoye.
