Today, two crews of long-range anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142 of the Northern Fleet performed a planned flight over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean.

The flight duration was about 12 hours.

During this time, the aircraft overcame a route with a length of over 7 thousand kilometers.

The route ran over the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, as well as over certain areas of the Laptev Sea.

During the flight, in addition to solving patrolling tasks, the pilots carried out reconnaissance of the ice situation, data on which greatly facilitates navigation along the Northern Sea Route.

Flights of long-range anti-submarine aircraft Tu-142 of the Northern Fleet are performed in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.

The flights in the Arctic were preceded by careful navigational training of the crews, taking into account the special geographical position and difficult meteorological conditions. During such flights, flight crews significantly increase the level of training, as well as work out questions on flying and piloting in difficult conditions.
