Rep. Jim Banks Named Next Chairman of Republican Study Committee
Washington, November 19, 2020
WASHINGTON – Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) was unanimously elected today by his peers to become the next chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), the largest conservative caucus on Capitol Hill. After launching his bid for chairman in May, Banks was unanimously endorsed by the RSC Executive Committee, made up of the former chairmen of the caucus, in September.
“I am honored to be chosen by my colleagues to lead the Republican Study Committee in the 117th Congress,” said Banks. “As the heart and soul of the conservative movement in the House, RSC is stronger than ever as we lead the fight for conservative values and push back against the radical socialist wing that controls the Democrat Party today. We will have our work cut out for us, but I won’t back down from the fight!”
The RSC has served as the conservative caucus of House Republicans and a leading influencer on the right since its original founding in 1973. It exists to bring like-minded House members together to promote a strong, principled legislative agenda that will limit government, strengthen our national defense, boost America’s economy, preserve traditional values and balance our budget. It has been called the “intellectual arsenal of conservatism” in the House of Representatives, and its purpose is to steer a conservative legislative agenda.
The RSC was previously chaired by notable conservative Representatives like Mike Pence, Jim Jordan and Steve Scalise.
During the 116th Congress, there were 148 members of the Republican Study Committee, nearly 75% of the 199 total Republicans.
