WASHINGTON –Today, Representative Marcia L. Fudge (OH-11) supported passage in the House of Representatives of the National Apprenticeship Act of 2020 (H.R. 8294). The bill invests $3.5 billion over five years to create nearly 1 million new apprenticeship opportunities. It includes the Expanding Opportunity through Pre-Apprenticeships Act (H.R. 8339), legislation introduced by Rep. Fudge to expand participation in pre-apprenticeship programs for underrepresented populations and individuals with barriers to employment.
“With millions of Americans out of work through no fault of their own, there has never been a more important time to invest in programs that create good-paying jobs,” said Rep. Fudge. “Registered Apprenticeships connect workers with paid, on-the-job training in preparation for careers in high skilled, in-demand industries. By expanding apprenticeship opportunities, Congress recognizes the importance of not only building our workforce back stronger, but also preparing workers for jobs of the future. I’m particularly proud to see this bill includes provisions like my Expanding Opportunity through Pre-Apprenticeships Act that ensures underrepresented workers have fair access to career-building pre-apprenticeship opportunities.”
