MIL OSI Translation. Government of the Republic of France statements from French to English –
Source: Republic of France in French The French Republic has issued the following statement:
Only a few days after making a first seizure of 1.6 tonnes of hashish on a dhow on the high seas, the Floréal Surveillance Frigate (FS) once again shines in the fight against drug trafficking within the Combined Task Force (CTF) 150, with a seizure of more than 800 kilograms of narcotics.
On November 18, at daybreak, this navy vessel sent its visiting team from its fast boats to a suspicious dhow. Objective: to secure and control the building before carrying out a more in-depth search.
The operation lasted nearly 11 hours and resulted in the discovery and seizure of more than 450 kilograms of methamphetamine and 360 kilograms of heroin. The illegal cargo is then weighed and sealed.
A mobilized crew and an experienced visiting team, experienced in operations under COVID-19 measures, made the success of this operation, which marks the second French drug seizure in a few days.
A task force since November 2002, CTF 150 is part of the multinational coalition of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), led from Bahrain. French frigates are regularly deployed as part of its anti-drug trafficking missions. The ships deployed in this coalition operate under the operational control of ALINDIEN.
The Indian Ocean has maritime routes particularly used by drug traffickers, particularly to Europe. As such, drug trafficking is one of the main security issues in the region.
Completed in 1991, the Floréal is the first in a series of six surveillance frigates, based overseas. Armed by 82 sailors, its main missions are the surveillance of maritime areas under French sovereignty in the southern area of the Indian Ocean (Reunion, Mayotte, the French Southern and Antarctic Lands) and the fight against illicit activities at sea ( drug trafficking, illegal fishing, etc.). Based at Port des Galets, on the west coast of Reunion, the Floréal is 93.5 meters long and 14 meters wide and has a load capacity of 2,600 tonnes.
