Members of the search teams of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region will donate unique artifacts from the times of the Nazi siege of Leningrad with calls for the city’s defenders to fight to the Museum of the Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District (ZVO).

Rare household attributes and homemade items made by Soviet soldiers during the Great Patriotic War were found during joint expeditions of search engines and military personnel of the ZVO combined-arms army on the Nevsky Piglet, Sinyavinsky and Pulkovsky Heights, in the village of Krasny Bor and other places. Among the items there are wooden spoons, pots and knives, many of them bear the inscriptions “For Leningrad!”, “For the Motherland!”, “I am dying, but I don’t give up”, etc.

Also, elements of weapons will be transferred: casings and cartridges from DP-27 light machine guns, fragments of anti-personnel grenades, bodies of Mosin SVT-40 rifles, remains of Soviet helmets SSh-40, PPSh submachine guns and other samples of domestic weapons.

Thanks to the joint work of the sappers of the combined arms army of the Western Military District and representatives of the search squads during the “Watch of Memory-2020”, more than 20 joint expeditions were carried out in places of fierce battles, the unburied remains of the dead were found, a number of names of servicemen who were considered missing were established, about 50 brotherly graves were landscaped and memorials in St. Petersburg and Leningrad region.
