Press Release
PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 18, 2020) – Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) is inviting interested high school students to apply for a congressional nomination for one of the four U.S. military academies that require it for admission. The deadline is Nov. 23, 2020.
“I want to make sure we have a diverse, highly qualified pool of applicants for these highly coveted positions. Every congressional district in the country gets to nominate some of its top students for these academies, which have produced future presidents and generals. I believe Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, is home to some of these future leaders!” Evans said.
The four academies that require a congressional nomination are: the U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, N.Y. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, Conn., does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
To learn more and get started with the application process, students and their families can visit evans.house.gov, click on Services and then click Military Academy Nominations. For questions, Evans’ office can be reached at 215-276-0340.
Evans represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia.
