McKinley Applauds Passage of Bill to Improve Transparency, Accountability at the VA
Deaths at Clarksburg VA Spurs Effort to Protect Veterans
“The Improving Safety and Security for Veterans Act is the first step towards helping provide transparency and accountability at our VA medical centers,” said Rep McKinley. “This bill will require the VA to submit detailed reports on patient safety and quality of care to Congress. This will provide Congress with a better understanding of what happened in Clarksburg, and how to prevent it from ever happening again.”
“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country and they deserve the best possible care and should feel safe when they come to one of our facilities,” added Rep. McKinley.

This legislation was introduced following several suspicious deaths of veterans at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center. The bill also requires that once the investigation at the Clarksburg VA concludes, that the VA provide Congress with a detailed report and timeline of the events. McKinley was a lead cosponsor on the House companion bill H.R. 5616. To read the full text of the bill click here.
