Madam President! Dear Colleagues! The only good thing about this current hour, which the AfD has requested, is that at the end of this plenary week we as parliament can think once again of the terrible events, of the terrorist events in France and together show our solidarity. What is lamentable, however, is that everyone has expressed their solidarity today – except for you from the AfD, who requested this current hour.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU as well as from members of the SPD, the FDP and the BÜNDNISSES 90 / DIE GRÜNEN – contradiction in the AfD)
I also tell you one thing: you are not really interested in France,
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: How do you know what we’re talking about? Just an insinuation from you!)
and you are actually not interested in the teacher Samuel Paty either. Dear Mr. Baumann, you have now made great reference to him. But, dear colleagues, I also tell you: this liberal, enlightened, modern French teacher who fell victim to Islamist terror,
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: We did a current hour for him, not you!)
he would be ashamed to be exploited by you.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU, the SPD, the FDP and the BÜNDNIS 90 / DIE GRÜNEN – Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: I don’t think so!)
That is also a signal that we are sending out today, dear colleagues.
Another part of the truth is that you are only half-heartedly interested in fighting terrorism. You are concerned with what you always want, namely to bring up your favorite topic here:
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: That’s not “darling”! People die here!)
the supposed downfall of the West. I tell you – you understand me correctly – it is the case that we were dealing with Islamist radicalized attackers in France.
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: With opposing societies!)
It is also the case that we are dealing with Islamism as an acute current danger in Germany.
(Frank Pasemann [AfD]: No, really?)
But we will not accept that you are making two misinterpretations here in this Parliament:
First. We will not allow you to give the impression that almost every Muslim is also an Islamist.
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: We didn’t say it! – Frank Pasemann [AfD]: Now stop making these allegations! Nobody here does that!)
As much as we have a clear stance against Islamism, we also say that the majority of the 4.5 million Muslims in Germany live in peace with us here and do not want Islamism any more than we as the majority society, dear colleagues.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU and the SPD as well as from members of the FDP and the ALLIANCE 90 / THE GREENS – Frank Pasemann [AfD]: Yes, then they should do something about it!)
Secondly. We will not allow it – and we will do so very clearly – that you want to cast doubt here that there is not even one colleague here in the house who has a spark of tolerance and understanding for Islamism . We don’t have that, we are fighting Islamism. That is what sets us apart from you; because you only have ideology and a blinkered world to offer. That is not enough, dear colleagues.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU as well as from members of the BÜNDNISSES 90 / DIE GRÜNEN – Dr. Gottfried Curio [AfD]: They just do nothing!)
– They say we’re not doing anything.
(Frank Pasemann [AfD]: Yes, don’t do it either!)
They do not do anything! You don’t live up to your own standards. They say: learn lessons from the attacks in France.
(Dr. Gottfried Curio [AfD]: You don’t act!)
But what you have presented here today was not teaching, it was not knowledge, it was a familiar pattern that we know from you:
(Frank Pasemann [AfD]: Exactly like your speech! It’s also the same record forever!)
It was just a polemic.
And we see something very, very clearly when we look at the Current Hours on extremism in this House.
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: You rule! What are you doing now? – Frank Pasemann [AfD]: We are the opposition! That is your job!)
You have requested a current hour on the subject of left-wing extremism. Today you are talking about Islamism.
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: You’re not doing anything!)
For example, while we were concerned with the right-wing extremist acts in Halle, the right-wing extremist murder of District President Walter Lübcke,
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: Can’t you think of anything else?)
you haven’t had anything to do but wallow in self-pity. We say: there is no such thing as extremism à la carte. There is no discount here, neither on right-wing nor left-wing extremism. We have a 360-degree view of
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: 360-degree view! Yes, great! You don’t notice anything!)
and that is the only way to deal with extremism correctly, dear colleagues.
(Applause from members of the CDU / CSU)
We also have to say: In our governmental activities we don’t give any air to extremism either. Last night we discussed the expiry of the Anti-Terrorism Amendment Act. We have developed the Joint Counter-Terrorism Center. We have consistently tightened the immigration law. Incidentally, it is also correct – as Mr Throm said – that, as a lesson from the Dresden case, we must think about how we can deport serious threats back to Syria, for example.
But we act, and we will not let you blame us for not acting properly when it comes to extremism, we are drawing the lessons.
(Shouts from the AfD)
That is why we will, for example, strengthen the investigative capabilities of our security authorities in the area of the Internet. You cannot fight extremism by exploiting it here; that can only be done through clever government action, and that is our aim.
(Dr. Bernd Baumann [AfD]: Now say what you want to do! You rule!)
Thank you very much.
(Applause from the CDU / CSU – shouts from the AfD)
