This year alone, 15.6 kilometers of lines and six new metro stations were built, 103 kilometers of roads were commissioned.

Over the past 10 years, Moscow has made a real breakthrough in the development of the transport system. The program to double the length of the Moscow metro, calculated until 2025, was completed by 65 percent. The network of urban roads has grown by more than a thousand kilometers. This was told by the Deputy Mayor of Moscow in the Moscow Government for Urban Development Policy and Construction Andrey Bochkarev.

“The Moscow building complex continues to actively develop the transport frame of the capital. Since the beginning of this year alone, we have built 15.6 kilometers of lines and six new metro stations. We plan to commission three more stations by the end of the year. A key project for the development of the Moscow metro, the Big Circle Line, is being implemented at an outstripping pace; we plan to completely close it by 2023. Since 2011, at least 100 kilometers of new roads have been commissioned in Moscow every year. Since the beginning of 2020 alone, 103 kilometers of roads have been commissioned, 23 artificial structures and 17 pedestrian crossings have been erected, ”he said.

According to Andrei Bochkarev, the main tasks of the development of the capital’s transport system are the integration of all types of transport networks into a single system and the solution of transport problems accumulated in the previous decades in various parts of the city.

“Since 2011, 15 outbound highways of the city – the most important road arteries – and 17 clover interchanges of the Moscow Ring Road have been modernized, which went faster due to the organization of traffic along directional exits. Now, in order to effectively solve Moscow’s transport problems, it is important to complete the formation of a system of chord lines, which is already 72 percent ready, ”noted Andrei Bochkarev.

The North-West Expressway is completely open to motorists, the North-East Expressway has started traffic in six sections, and on the South Road – in three sections. The Southeast Expressway is under construction.

“We have started construction of the last section of the North-Eastern Expressway, linking the Otkrytoye and Yaroslavskoye Highways. Based on the consideration of all possible options, a decision was made to lay the route in the right-of-way of the Moscow Central Circle railway lines. The land plots on which the construction is underway are not included in the boundaries of the specially protected natural area of the national park, ”explained Andrei Bochkarev, stressing that construction began only after receiving all the permits.

The commissioning of the last section of the North-Eastern Expressway will allow to unite the already constructed parts of the highway in the north and east of the capital and to launch a full-fledged high-speed traffic through three Moscow districts without traffic lights. The new section of the North-East Expressway will create a high-speed connection between the Yaroslavskoye and Otkrytye highways, redistribute traffic flows in the north-east of Moscow, relieve some of the load from the Yaroslavskoye, Dmitrovskoye, Shchelkovskoye highways and Entuziastov highway. The travel time between the northern and eastern districts for Moscow residents will be reduced by more than 40 minutes. In addition, the expressway will allow connecting the Moscow – St. Petersburg federal highway and the promising Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan highway, as well as creating additional exits to them.

The construction of the North-East Expressway is planned to be completed in 202235 kilometers of roads and 26 districts: construction of the North-East Expressway continues

The North-East Expressway will run through 26 districts of Moscow and 10 large industrial zones, which, with its appearance, will have an opportunity for development. The new city highway will provide access to 12 transport hubs, 21 metro and MCC stations, as well as to the platforms of MCD-1 and MCD-3 under construction.

The northeastern expressway will connect major highways of the city: Moscow Ring Road, Entuziastov Highway, Izmailovskoye, Shchelkovskoye, Otkrytoye, Yaroslavskoye, Altufevskoye and Dmitrovskoye Highways, and will also allow access to 15 major Moscow streets: Festivalnaya, Selskhozyaistvennaya, Amurskaya, Shcherbakovskaya, Perovskaya, Yunosti streets , Papernik and others.

The construction is planned to be completed in 2022.

The northeastern expressway has not only transport, but also environmental significance. The new highway will reduce the length of congested sections by 71 kilometers, and the citywide mileage by 40 thousand cars per hour. This will reduce harmful emissions from cars by at least 10 percent.

According to Andrey Bochkarev, 1,850 trees and 9,980 shrubs will be planted along the highway as part of the improvement of the territory, including in the form of a two-row hedge. Additionally, to protect the fauna on the section of the road adjacent to Losiny Island, six meters high light and noise screens and additional protective structures will be built to prevent animals from entering the road. Within the framework of the project, it is also planned to build a pedestrian crossing, with the help of which parks in the north-east of the city will be united into the Yauza superpark.
