Washington, DC – Today, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) Representatives Lois Frankel (FL-21) and Jackie Speier (CA-14), and Vice Chairs Representatives Veronica Escobar (TX-16) and Deb Haaland (NM-01), released the following statement after the DWC endorsed Representative Brenda L. Lawrence (MI-14) for the Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative for members serving five or less terms.
“As we move into the 117th Congress, we must ensure that this Caucus has a strong voice at the leadership table who is ready to take on the tough challenges and lift the voices of all women. Therefore, the Democratic Women’s Caucus is proud to endorse our colleague and Co-Chair, Representative Brenda L. Lawrence, for the Democratic Caucus Leadership Representative position. Women are the driving force for change in our communities on every issue ranging from the economy to healthcare to the issues that disproportionately impact communities of color. With at least 60 Democratic women serving five or less terms, Rep. Lawrence will be well positioned to work with the junior members of the Democratic Caucus to amplify diverse voices and deliver results for women and their families.”
Representative Brenda L. Lawrence currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus and the Bipartisan Women’s Caucus, and is a member of both the House Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Oversight and Reform. The Democratic Women’s Caucus is comprised of all 90 Democratic women in the House, united by the common goals of advancing women’s economic security, providing affordable health care—including reproductive health care—and ensuring freedom from violence and discrimination.
