Bogotá (Nov. 16/20). During the III Ministerial to promote freedom of religion and belief, held virtually and under the auspices of the Polish government, Foreign Minister Claudia Blum highlighted Colombia’s commitment to promoting freedom of religion and belief both at the national level. as international.

The Minister emphasized the conclusions of the Hemispheric Forum on Religious Freedom and Beliefs, organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Interior of Colombia, on October 22 and 23. Among them: the importance of consolidating religious freedom as an instrument for conflict prevention and as a platform to build relationships between societies with different cultural and religious conceptions.

Likewise, the Chancellor pointed out the fundamental role that religious organizations have in social causes and mentioned the case of the massive migration of Venezuelans, which has represented a challenge not only for Colombia but also for the region. “Interreligious dialogue has been relevant in the humanitarian response to the thousands of Venezuelan migrants who arrive in Colombia, who have been offered assistance,” he said.

At the end of her speech, Chancellor Claudia Blum invited States to eliminate discrimination and incitement to hatred, to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue within and between nations, and to improve human rights education. “These efforts are important steps in the joint goal of fighting intolerance and violence, and building peaceful societies,” he concluded.

The Ministerial to promote freedom of religion and belief is a periodic meeting in which representatives of States, civil organizations and religious groups discuss the challenges faced by religious freedom, identify the means to fight against religious persecution and discrimination throughout the world, and promote respect for religious freedom for all.
