The Shcherbinsky Elevator Plant has tested a new cab disinfection system. In the near future, the development is planned to be launched into mass production. Leader Department of Investment and Industrial Policy of the City of Moscow Alexander Prokhorov noted that developers are already showing interest in the invention.
“From January to September 2020, enterprises in the capital produced 12.7 thousand elevators, which is more than a quarter higher than the figures for the same period last year. In a pandemic, manufacturers began to pay special attention to compliance with new, more stringent sanitary and epidemiological requirements. At the same time, they not only adjusted their own production processes for them, but also develop solutions that make it safer for the further operation of products. The elevator disinfection system developed by the Shcherbinsky Elevator Building Plant is one of such products, it has already been successfully tested by specialists and is ready for mass production, ”the head of the Department emphasized.
Disinfectants in the new development are single LED emitters of bactericidal ultraviolet radiation, which purify the air and surfaces. The uniqueness of the design lies in the fact that the system is built into the cab, rather than being mounted as a separate element. This allows disinfection only with a guaranteed absence of passengers inside. When the doors are opened or there are people in the car, the system is turned off, and the elevator operates normally.
The ultraviolet irradiators will operate during the least intense lift intervals. So, at night, the duration of disinfection will be one hour, which will ensure almost complete sterility of the cabin. Information about the system operation will be displayed on a small screen located inside the elevator – this will help to carry out diagnostics and repairs as soon as possible. Now engineers of the Shcherbinsky Elevator Building Plant are studying the effect of bactericidal ultraviolet radiation on materials and coatings that are used in elevators. This is necessary to avoid problems during their operation.
The development check was carried out at the Research Institute of Disinfection of Rospotrebnadzor, where a standard cabin with a built-in disinfection system was installed. Its employees applied microorganisms to the surface, the strains of which have a resistance to disinfectants comparable to COVID-19. The analysis of effectiveness included several stages: infection, disinfection and checking the disinfected space for viruses.
“The development of this technology is especially relevant in the face of the growing incidence of coronavirus. Thanks to cooperation with the research institute, it was possible to obtain an objective result, now the plant’s specialists are engaged in cost optimization and in the near future they will be ready to launch new elevators with a disinfection system into serial production, ”said Anton Artemyev, General Director of the Shcherbinsky Elevator Building Plant.
The company also started designing a separate system for old cabins and lifts from other manufacturers, while maintaining the disinfection functionality.
The Shcherbinsky Elevator Plant dates back to 1943. Today the enterprise is one of the largest manufacturers of elevator equipment in Russia.
