Headline: Revision of the special statute law – stronger position of the Bernese Jura and the Romand in the canton of Bern

The government council has approved a revision of the special statute law for the attention of the grand council, thus laying the cornerstone of ten years of work to expand the rights of the French-speaking population of the canton of Bern. The “Status quo plus” project corresponds to the concerns of the Bern Jurassic Council (BJR) and the Council for French-speaking Affairs of the bilingual administrative district of Biel / Bienne (RFB). It grants these bodies new competencies and greater autonomy in granting contributions, ensuring public services in French, developing bilingualism and giving strong support to regional culture and identity. In addition, it ensures a good position for the French-speaking population in the bilingual bridging canton of Bern and helps to finally bring the Jura issue to a close.
