In the outgoing year, artillerymen of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District (YuVO) in the North Caucasus completed more than 15 thousand fire missions with live firing during training at the district’s training grounds.

The artillery officers organized the training of tank and motorized rifle subunits for firing from closed firing positions. For the first time in practice, an improved training program for T-72B3 tanks and BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles has been tested.

Practical application of combat experience in modern local conflicts made it possible to increase the survivability of artillery subunits and to achieve a significant reduction in the time spent on firing missions.

In total, in the 2020 academic year, artillerymen and missilemen of the combined arms army of the Southern Military District conducted more than 300 tactical exercises and drills in firing and artillery fire control, and successfully launched missiles from the Iskander tactical missile system. Consumption of ammunition compared to last year increased by more than 20 percent and amounted to more than 25 thousand shells and mines.

The main efforts in the course of classes, trainings and exercises were aimed at training missile and artillery units as part of reconnaissance and strike complexes using UAV systems and instrumental artillery and military reconnaissance means.
