Muscovites will learn how to feed birds in winter, how to make feeders and where to install them.

In the capital, the annual ecological and educational campaign “Titmouse” has started. The date was not chosen by chance: on November 12, Sinichkin Day is celebrated – an ecological holiday created by the Russian Bird Conservation Union. It is believed that at this time birds, in anticipation of cold weather, fly closer to human habitation, waiting for help from people.

This year, the promotion will take place in offline and online formats. Mospriroda experts will tell the townspeople how to feed the birds in winter. As part of the environmental education sessions, which will be held from November to March, Mospriroda experts will tell the townspeople the best way to feed the birds in winter. For example, sunflower seeds will attract sparrows and tits, nuts and acorns – woodpeckers and jays, dried rowan or hawthorn berries will appeal to bullfinches, thrush and waxwings. You can not give salty, fried, peppercorns, as well as baked goods, almonds, white and rye bread.

Participants of the action will find out how to make a feeding trough correctly and where it is better to place it. They will also learn which wintering birds to feed and when. So, it is too early to start feeding in the fall – this harms the birds. The most successful month for preparing treats is November, because birds need help only in winter, when it is difficult for them to get food on their own.

Anyone can take part in the action free of charge. The event poster is posted daily on the social networks of the State Budgetary Institution “Mospriroda” and on official website.
