Ella Pamfilova, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of Russia, sent a welcome address to the participants of the second International Municipal Forum of the BRICS Countries, which is being held in St. Petersburg in an online format.
The Chairperson of the CEC of Russia noted that one of the central topics of the Forum, brought up for discussion, will be the exchange of experience in the field of organizing elections and the development of new technologies in the electoral process.
“In the age of rapid digitalization, the importance of this agenda is unconditionally recognized by all BRICS participants, who invariably express interest in discussing current issues of theory and practice of electoral process, in the need to develop approaches to strengthening democracy in the modern world through elections,” Ella Pamfilova stressed in her greeting.
The Head of the Commission expressed hope for strengthening joint actions to exchange the results of practical activities, develop bilateral professional cooperation in the electoral sphere, and noted the importance of international election observation.
The business program of the Forum this year consists of 19 sessions dedicated to the issues of economic development and humanitarian cooperation that are of importance for regions and municipalities of the BRICS countries. The Forum is included in the Official plan of events of the Chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the interstate association BRICS in 2020, which is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Russian Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Aabroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation and the Government of St. Petersburg .
