The Advisory Council for the Assessment of Macroeconomic Development today presented its annual report 2020/2021 “Coping with the Corona crisis together, strengthening resilience and growth”. In it, the Council expressly appreciates the quick and decisive action of the Federal Government in the corona pandemic. In addition to these short-term challenges, the experts emphasize the opportunities of far-reaching structural change through technological progress, demographic change and transformation towards a climate-neutral economy. Federal Minister of Economics Altmaier: “The forecasts of the Advisory Council are roughly in the range of our projection, albeit for this one Year is a little more optimistic and next year a little more cautious. The further economic development now depends largely on how quickly we manage to break the infection dynamics. Health protection and economic development go hand in hand. We have to reduce the number of infections – in the interest of all of our health, but also in the interest of our economy and the many employees in our country. I very much welcome the fact that the Expert Council also emphasizes the industrial policy opportunities of climate protection in its report. With CO2 pricing, we are well on the way in Germany, which we must consistently pursue. I also share the Expert Council’s conviction that we should use targeted measures to deepen and sustainably use the current digitalisation boost. ”Last year, the Expert Council also assumed the role of the National Productivity Committee on the basis of a European recommendation and with the annual report 2020/21 The Federal Government will – as required by law – give its opinion on the expert opinion of the German Advisory Council in early 2021 as part of the annual economic report. You can find the expert opinion here.
